Good Morning America, Take Four

After several postponements, it looks like the GMA segment Mommy Needs a Xanax was in will finally air tomorrow, Monday, March 18.  I was told I'd be updated if it's moved again, and I haven't heard anything today. If I get the dreaded "We postponed it again" text between now and then, I'll post it on Facebook and Twitter, so be sure to follow me on one or both!

Also, much thanks to Val at Unbagging the Cats for helping spread the word to the blogosphere!

  1. I'm trying to get the word out. Because when Val speaks, the blogosphere listens. All 0.000000000000001 percent of it. Hope I'm not overestimating.

  2. I just wanted to say I thought GMA did a very fair and accurate story this morning and I wish the clip of the segment was able to be published on here right now with a link for others to see. I personally do not use Zanax, but I do take Cymbalta~ and enjoy a few glasses of wine on the days Zanax most likely would have been needed! I'm a single divorced Mother of two teenagers. My son is easy to manage, my 13yr. old daughter... well... not so much!

    1. I am so glad I have boys, because teenage girls scare me! I agree the story was well done. There is now a clip of the segment on the blog, under the post titled "Moms and Meds." It should be on the front page.

  5. Your blog has made the national news here in Canada. It may get dissed because of the title, but I want to tell you that I took Citalopram for PMS, and my kids insisted that I do. Taking medication is a mother's decision to be made with her doctor, and is not a simple issue.
Today's mother may be pressured to be perfect, but also, she's probably living away from her own mother, grandmother and other older female relatives who can offer support, who had their relatives to help them. And we can't forget that many of our mothers and grandmothers DID get help. Some were even admitted in order to get that help.
I know women who think it's wrong to head for meds, but I also know that some of those women take stress leave from work, vacations from their families or make Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada look like Mother Teresa.
By criticizing mothers who need meds, we are reverting back to the dark ages, and putting the vulnerable at risk. If we support mothers who need meds, we can better help them, show them it's okay to be imperfect moms, and thus help the children of this world.

    1. Was it on GMA in Canada, or another program? BTW I totally agree about modern day moms not having the support system people used to have. My mother lives 300 miles away and works a full time job. My in-laws are both deceased. My husband's sister lives 50 miles from here and works. We can't leave our sons at her house very often because they have severe allergies and she has a cat, but she comes to our house to visit them often, and she is probably the most reliable and handy source of support we have. I have often envied other moms who have their parents or in-laws in the same town, or even within an hour drive. It would be so nice to be able to leave the kids with a loving grandparent or aunt and go to a doctor's appointment, grocery shopping, or just have a few hours to decompress without having to pay a sitter. It's not available to us, and I think it does add to the pressure.

  6. I'm a mom of a five-year-old, and have been on Citalopram for 2.5 years. I work outside the home, and Citalopram has been my lifesaver! I am a much more patient parent, and I can deal with everything so much more easily than I could before. I'm starting to step it down now, and am, thankfully, still dealing quite well.
